Application of Hyperelastic Nodal Force Method to Evaluation of Aortic Valve Cusps Coaptation: Thin Shell vs. Membrane Formulations

چکیده
Coaptation characteristics are crucial in an assessment of the competence reconstructed aortic valves. Shell or membrane formulations can be used to model valve cusps coaptation. In this paper we compare both terms their coaptation for first time. Our numerical thin shell is based on a combination hyperelastic nodal forces method and rotation-free finite elements. The verified several popular benchmarks thin-shell analysis. relative error with respect reference solutions does not exceed 1–2%. We apply our closure idealized varying hyperelasticity models shear moduli. become almost insensitive elastic potentials sensitive bending stiffness, which reduces zone.

Collagen Bundle Orientation Explains Aortic Valve Leaflet Coaptation
The aortic valve owes its strength and durability to a network of collagen fibers within the leaflets. However, the pattern of these fibers and their role in valve function is not well understood. We imaged and quantified the macroscopically visible pattern of collagen fibers in seven porcine aortic valves with particular attention to measuring this pattern in the unstrained leaflet. We then us...
متن کاملOxygen diffusion and consumption of aortic valve cusps.
To maintain tissue oxygenation, normal aortic valves contain a vascular bed where tissue thickness is greatest. Avascular "living" tissue-engineered heart valves have been proposed, yet little information exists regarding the magnitude of valve tissue metabolic activity or oxygen requirements. We therefore set out to measure the oxygen diffusivity (DO(2)) and oxygen consumption (VO(2)) of seven...
متن کاملA rare case of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis complicated with multiple fistula to peri aortic structure
Multiple aorto-cardiac cavity communications is very rare but important complication of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis. The case below illustrates multiple aorto-cardiac cavity fistula formation following prostethic aortic valve endocarditis presented with slowly progressive symptoms of heart failure. A brief review of surgical reconstruction and the existing literature are presented, i...
متن کاملEffect of glutaraldehyde fixation and valve constraint conditions on porcine aortic valve leaflet coaptation.
In an investigation of the influence of glutaraldehyde fixation pressure and subsequent valve constraint on the coaptive characteristics of porcine aortic valves, 14 valves were examined, eight having been fixed at low pressure (congruent to 1 mm Hg) and six at high pressure (80 mm Hg). The coaptive ratios of the left and right coronary leaflets in the low-pressure-fixed valves showed a signifi...
متن کاملElevated cyclic stretch alters matrix remodeling in aortic valve cusps: implications for degenerative aortic valve disease.
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and cathepsins are proteolytic enzymes that are upregulated in diseased aortic valve cusps. The objective of this study was to investigate whether elevated cyclic stretch causes an increased expression and activity of these proteolytic enzymes in the valve cusp. Circumferentially oriented fresh porcine aortic valve cusp sections were stretched to 10% (physiologi...
